FIRST SIGHT reveals the broken family background of its female protagonist named Bella Swan, whose parents are Renee and Charlie. She was merely a few months old then when her Mom ran away with her, abandoning her Dad in the process. It opened with Bella bidding goodbye Renee in Phoenix to finally live with Charlie in Forks.
Upon arrival at Forks, she received an old Chevy truck from her Dad as a homecoming gift. Charlie bought it from his longtime friend Billy Black, who had sold it cheap since he's now stuck in a wheelchair. Bella felt relieved from picturing herself walking miles rather than riding in a cop's cruiser. Her Dad is the Police Chief of Forks.
Charlie stayed in the same two-bedroom house he had purchased during the earlier part of his marriage with Renee. The only changes in Bella's room since her childhood were the bed instead of a crib, the secondhand computer, and the phoneline. While unpacking, she was worrying about not fitting in at Forks High School, where her Dad had enrolled her.
Bella was off early to school the next day, parked at the first building she had seen, and went inside its office. She introduced herself to the lady receptionist, who in turn instructed to have the slips signed by her professors, then gave her class schedule and a school map. Her classes went just fine and the first guy who introduced himself was Eric.
While chatting with her new friends in the cafeteria, Bella had noticed The Cullens so she inquired about them. Jessica hushed about the adopted kids of Dr. Cullen and his wife, namely, Emmett, Rosalie, Jasper, Alice, and Edward. They all moved to Forks two years ago from Alaska. Obviously sour graping, she warned Bella that Edward doesn't date.
They turned out to be Biology lab partners. Though feigning to be jotting down notes, Bella had to sniff herself when she saw that Edward had acted as if he was repulsed by her smell. Seeing him glared at her with intense hatred, tears welled up in her lids. Then, he bolted out of the room as fast as lightning when the bell rang.
After Bella's Gym class with Mike, who's the next one to apply his charm on her, she crossed roads again with Edward in the office where she had to surrender the slips. Edward was also inside arguing with the lady in charge about changing his Biology time slot. Abhorrence filled his eyes when he had found out that Bella was also in the room.
